A Sonic Portrait for David Goss

For one night only, The Stargate hosts the premiere of A Sonic Portrait for David Goss, a 90-minute sound art and movement performance on Black, Queer euphony by multidisciplinary artist Malika Ali Harding, featuring choreographer Nehemiah Spencer. A post-performance conversation, with tea, will be led by collaborator Chantal deFelice.

Performer Bios:

Malika Ali Harding is an artist and researcher whose projects merge staged photography and memory. Her multidisciplinary practice maintains a dialogue with sound, performance, video, screenwriting, embroidery, and installation. Her work explores African American ancestral myth making and employs deep listening as a tool of identity preservation. Using collective memory as raw material, she creates self/family portraits to expand her lineal archive and reinterpret vernacular histories. Born in Cleveland, Ohio (USA), Malika is now based in The Netherlands.

Nehemia Spencer is a dancer, choreographer, and educator from Cleveland, Ohio. A graduate of The Juilliard School, he has performed as a principal artist with Complexions Contemporary Ballet touring internationally. Spencer has worked as a featured dancer with Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, Creative Outlet Dance Theatre of Brooklyn, the Dianne McIntyre Group, and Kyle Abraham's Dance Vanguard. Through his initiative for at-risk youth, The Nehemiah Project, affordable training is offered to adolescent dancers in his hometown.
